Wow... another extremely tragic and depressing Korean film, nothing new here. Memoir of a Murderer, not to be confused by Memories of Murder (which i still need to watch), is a reliable mystery thriller that immerses the viewer within the mind of vigilante murderer Mr. Kim's as he struggles with his newly diagnosed dementia. There were some evident flaws that kept this move from being great though. The relationship between Tae-Su and Eun-hee was forced and rushed for sake of the plot. Also, the cop scene where he took the call inside of the house with the guy he was trying to kill was ridiculous. But barring some minor plot holes and questionable character decisions, this movie was an excellent watch. Truly a masterful execution of misdirection and disorientation that left me questioning every scenes reality, reminding me a lot of Nolan's Memento. Additionally, the juxtaposition between Mr. Kim's backstory and Tae-Su's was of note, giving light to how two people can become murderers stemming from very similar circumstances, but killing for contrasting reasons. I also appreciate the poetic nature of the ending, in that Mr. Kim was able to save his daughter but at the sake of her learning his true identity and ultimately losing her anyways. Score was also fire. Didn't care much for the cliff hanger ending, didn't need that.
