In Marseilles, France in 1794, Desiree Clary, a young millinery clerk, becomes infatuated with Napoleon Bonaparte, but winds up wedding General Jean-Baptiste Berandotte, an aid to Napoleon who later joins the forces that bring about the Emperor's downfall. Josephine Beauharnais, a worldly courtesan marries Napoleon and becomes Empress of France, but is then cast aside by her spouse when she proves unable to produce an heir to the throne.

‘ you lied. wine isn’t strengthening. ‘ - desiree clary

unfortunately, disappointed by my two favorite actors. the story was far too boring, and characters were poorly written. i didn’t care for any of them. despite that, the costumes where phenomenal and i simply adore everything simmons wears in this film. i wish this was better written, it does not suit brando. however, i enjoyed simmons role. she’s always a pleasure to watch in younger roles... such a teen girl. <3

Didn’t expect to like this movie as much as I did- Desiree is a queen I love her. She always spoke her mind and had THE BEST outfits omg I need that yellow dress!! Props to her for getting two of the most powerful men in Europe to be in love with her. I wish I lived in this time strictly for the style. I love the hairstyles and I love the dresses I’m so jealous😭 Napoleon sucked.
