Bette Davis twins?? I think my life is complete. For real though it’s crazy how good they were able to make the twins look now 80 years ago, there’s literally a Sinners shot in here of Bette passing a match to her twin and all through the movie I didn’t see a single flaw in the editing which is seriously high praise for the tech they had available back then. As for the story it’s just so much fun, I’m still not sure how to feel about that ending but the concept is one of the coolest I’ve seen from the golden age and the way the narrative flows through the first 90 minutes made that great concept even more entertaining to follow. I also find it interesting that neither of the twins we’re following is exactly morally upstanding, Pat isn’t a good person for obvious reasons and Katie’s crime is best explained by the title of the movie and the manipulation that followed, and there’s no doubt that Katie is the lesser evil there but I still find it interesting considering the “happy” ending and the hays code that usually prevented those for morally objectionable characters. It should be taken with a grain of salt because I’d say this about every other lead of hers but this is truly some of Bette’s best work, we didn’t see too much of the “evil” sister (which she of course nailed too and i DEFINITELY could’ve done with more of that character) but she was expectedly perfect in the spotlighted reserved yet emotional role that came with the “good” sister. I’d understand why and how some would take issue with parts of it especially with the ending which grabbed at heartstrings that didn’t really exist for me but A Stolen Life was really one of the most charming and fun movie experiences through the solid technical work, amazing story concept, and most importantly the powerhouse performance from the one and only Bette Davis.

Loses points for the ending, she shouldn’t have gotten with Emerson. 
Gains points for the special effects on the twin scenes,  looked better than some modern movies

BRUH I HAD HIGH HOPES FOR BILL , I really really liked him and he seemed like a good guy since he’s a loser alone in a lighthouse but he didn’t think twice in choosing pat over Katie EVEN THOUGH HE ACTUALLY GOT TO KNOW KATIE 
it was very interesting though , I’d probably watch again

Bette Davis is incredible. Unfortunately just not my cup of tea, really ought to start watching more stuff from this era though.
