A surreal and trippy experience. Really proves you can do anything with animation. Some really creative sequences here, particularly the end credits sequence.

Saw this ages ago when I was a kid (so like, 2005?) and had no idea who or what a Gumby was. The second time I saw it (the date of this log) was when a friend threw it on in a watch party and I found that I still had no connection to the green guy, as friendly as he may be. This came out in that time period where every slowly losing relevancy IP was trying to make a comeback with the kids. Felix the Cat got one. The Little Rascals got one. Gumby got one. It only worked out for one of those three, and neither one of the other two dared to call itself the first in a series that never happened.
The most novel thing about Gumby: the Movie is that it feels dated even when it’s trying to be relevant. The only saving Grace is the fact that its soundtrack is surprisingly decent, thanks to the work of former Starship guitarist Craig Chaquino and former Jerry Garcia keyboardist Ozzie Ahlers. The rest really is a long episode of Gumby, not even a special event like a film adaptation should be, and no invention Gumby could make would change that. Holy Toledo.
