I really want to write something as profound as this film is. I don't think I can. The way almost every event in the first half of it is shown in a calculated manner so that you believe what is shown is nothing short of brilliant. I think Kore-eda is one of the worlds' finest living filmmakers. Especially when dealing with empathy and humans. I think this film showcases how great he can also be when dealing with the coldest, darkest of subjects. And it's beautiful.
