Such a pleasant surprise. I’m always so impressed by how well written these movies are, I’m not sure if the writers were better back then or the performers or whatever but it seems I enjoy it every time, even with these smaller, lesser known movies. The premise for the story and the story itself are both so entertaining, I know it was a play before it became a movie but there’s so much about it I love, and I may be complimenting the play with some of these but since I don’t know I don’t really care. I liked how fast the story went along, with one montage and a few scenes the school has already been going for 2 years, that made it a lot more interesting and gave a broader scope of the students’ lives. My only problem with it was Bessie’s weird storyline, but considering the actress was as good as she was and the way it became important to the story at the end made it excusable for me. Bette Davis is as good as ever, truly one of the most talented actresses ever, and it helps when she’s next to the likes of John Dall, Joan Lorring, and the rest of the cast who were all impressive as well. A heartwarming story that didn’t feel overlong for a second, dialogue was nicely written, plenty of good performances from the cast, it’s rare a movie this old gets the “comfort movie” title from me but this is exactly that.

Un drama con todas las letras. Uno bueno. Estuve toda la película diciendo: ¿De donde lo tengo? Para el final me di cuenta que era el de Rope, pero ocupo más tiempo en mi cabeza ese pensamiento que su arco dramático. Bette Davies está muy bien, compro todas sus apariciones. Lo del bebe esta muuuuuuy agarrado, un personaje que era un gag al final cobró relevancia pero posta, ni tanto.
