so obsessed with how tsukamoto shoots the city, his urban cinematography is so distinct and just stunning. 10/10.
though this was probably not the best film to watch all alone in bed in my dark room at 11pm, my fandom of tsukamoto and masanobu ando in combination with a developing fandom for ryuhei matsuda said: "yeah! watch the horror movie about people being brutally murdered in their sleep right before you go to sleep! good idea!" so, i did.
another one for the pessimistic investigative procedural psychological horror made in japan in the 90's/00's, which is a lil subgenre thats quickly becoming a fave of mine. tsukamoto manages to temper the sometimes-nihilism of the genre to an extent, though the film is still quite gory (of course.) i actually found the climatic sequence surprisingly touching? i don't wanna say "sweet" but like... yeah... it kinda was.
