Bruh, I’d be mad too and start destroying everything in my path if some dumb scientists showed up in the village where I was literally worshipped as a God just to tell everyone it’s all a lie. Lolll.
Honestly, I have nothing else to say about this movie. I tried to find some deep meaning or subtext that Ishiro Honda usually hides in his works, but I didn't really find much besides "humans shouldn't mess with nature." Pretty valid tho, but that's about it.
But hey! There’s nothing wrong with a lizard just being a lizard who wants to kick everyone’s asses for being woken up. Plus, who doesn’t love watching giant monsters smash cities to pieces?
To me, Varan feels like a mix between Godzilla and Rodan, a giant lizard that can fly. He’s like the middle child of the Toho family that nobody talks about, sadly, cause I wish they’d promoted him more as a character and improved his story more than just him destroying Tokyo for the whole movie, it’d be pretty cool.
I lowkey love this angry lil fella. He’s just a grumpy god who woke up on the wrong side of the lake because of human curiosity.
