A perfectly adequate good film where Hepburn is great as usually but not much else of note

I feel this started out strong but my like for this movie declined with the passing minutes. In 60% of Katharine Hepburn’s scenes she appears so fake and contrived that its difficult to love her character. Although as is Katharine Hepburn we can’t help but root for her. Fred MacMurray gave such a pleasant and natural performance that I just wished that they gave him something more to work on. We barely know anything about him or his motivations and he is quite bland. Ofc this was Katharine Hepburn’s movie and she steals the show but the romance was so unbelievable to me. It didn’t really do anything to established why would MacMurray’s character would fall for Alice Adams. As far as Cinderella’s stories go, Joan Crawford is the one who excels the most at them.
