Was it true devotion or secret desperation? One thing that was consistent during this documentary was their devotion to God. Every time God was brought up, I’d begin to tear up. Even with stiff fingers and rotting feet, they’d thank God for life. Even with missing limbs and swollen mouths, they’d kneel down and pray to God every Friday. Children would ignore their pain and adults would stare in the mirror for hours. I do find it both sickening and amazing how these people with such harsh diseases still found God in the simplest of things. Only an illness as tender as this could create such blind faith.

Wie is de mens geïsoleerd en buitengesloten van zijn medemens en waar keer je naartoe als het blijkt dat zelfs het universum je heeft achtergelaten? Naar jezelf. Met dank en pijn en een gemeenschap met mensen zoals jij. Ik begrijp dat deze film gaat over religie en mensen hun geloof in god vasthouden maar god is ons en wij zijn god. De kracht die we geven aan god te aanbidden is de kracht binnen ons. God geeft ons geen kracht maar wij hem.

De wereld is lui, god is lui, het universum is lui, alleen jij en ik geboren uit fouten zijn wat we van onszelf maken. Hoe lelijk we allemaal van binnen kunnen lijken, men is een oplosser van aard.
