Was not expecting to enjoy this one so much, ont only because of the mediocre ratings but also because of the film’s first 15 minutes, which are quite rough and kind of uninteresting, yet that ends up paying off since it is very much a slow burn. The build-up is phenomenal, and I love how it doesn’t explode into an action packed climax, but instead just ends in a point where both the characters have reached their limits. Minelli’s staging is incredible as well, this is not his usual film (I kept thinking of Hitchcock) but I love the dynamic he creates between the main love triangle and how Hepburn’s psyche affects the mise en scene. A small complaint is that Mitchum’s presence in and of itself is already a spoiler but whatever. Also, despite me feeling the film redeems itself from its dull start, they are still there and could be a reason for one to just drop the it altogether. I would say though, if someone did that they would be missing out on some good fucking cinema.
