Underwhelming
I remember when this first came out and I used to hear the most insane stories of people leaving the cinema traumatized. Watching this made me feel as if everyone understood it on a higher level than me. The atmosphere in this film is amazing, it does create a sort of sense of dread and unease. It also extends beyond surface level through its exploration of the protagonists feelings of grief and loss following the death of her father. I just don't like this because it's not in the least terrifying. The level of how scary or disturbing a horror/thriller film is counts as a valid means to rate it. And this was just boring. There were some scenes where I felt as if something terrifying was going to happen so the anticipation was insane but it was shortly replaced with disappointment.
