this had all the ingredients for something i'd love but honestly didn't land for me? everyone was great in it! i adore brendan gleeson and diana keaton was lovely. they were a lovely duou! but i just found myself kind of bored with the whole thing. there were some definitely promising and sweet/funny moments, but that was mostly within the romance element and less to do with the actual plot surrounding donald's life.
i also was more interested in james norton and hugh skinner ngl. would've loved to have learned more about emily's son and their relationship with her late husband. and i just find hugh skinner to be so endearing and he was so sweet in this. i also just couldn't stand james? i mean, plenty of movies have that weird, quirky, overbearing character that you're meant to roll your eyes and laugh at but i couldn't even find it in me to find him funny. he was insufferable.
good performances, but ultimately a bit bland?
