Director- Eiji Uchida. This is the first film I have seen of his. The film is quite similar in it's execution to several Sono films, albeit worse. The movie is a good double feature with Antiporno and love exposure of Sion Sono. The movie's content is quite similar to antiporno but the way it deals with it is damn worse. The lead actress doesn't have the charisma of Tomite Ami and it shows. It also features a yakuza storyline which isn't like Shinjuku Swan of Sion Sono, but it doesn't add a whole lot except showing how one can be trapped within one's surroundings yet again. It feels like he's nailing an already nailed point again. There are some good fight scenes but nothing memorable. The film doesn't have much to remember. There's also a cult angle, like in Love Exposure of Sion Sono, which tells us about how fake religious cults are running rampant in Japan and how they prey on unsuspecting gullible people.Overall, the film felt like it was trying to balance multiple storylines, which it couldn't. Hence, some storylines merged with others too soon rather than having a decent run alone. It is also overly filled with multiple angles like the yakuza, biker gangs, runaway teens, child prostitution, etc.The film also focuses on too many characters. It should have cut down the number by two at least to make it much more compact. This would also allow the other characters to be more fleshed out.The visuals lack color that one can see in the later works of Sono. It feels like the film was made in 2007 and not 2017.The runtime should have increased to allow a more satisfying ending or make the one we got, better.
