perfectly captures the feeling of built up resentment and loneliness within a relationship. both are holding some form of resentment for the other but never truly discuss it.
there were many scenes where their thoughts overlapped, yet neither of sophie nor greg choose to speak on it. you can almost feel the silence that they are sharing in the car that greg loves so much, and the shot of the loveless bed and simply the word “no” was very disheartening. rustled, used, but no love.
the fact that its alternative title is “double blind” really caught me. it usually means in research, an experiment where neither the researchers nor the participants know who got the treatment. it works so well that i prefer it more than its more commonly used title… it shows greg and sophies relationship with one another, neither of them know what to do and whats going to happen in their relationship. simply just going through the movements because its whats expected, whats normal. you can also take it literally, the documentary itself is a double blind.
im just completely in love with how sophie calle chooses to portray her story. so unique and raw i cant help but fall in love with it… i have quite a soft spot for films like this! something odd, something slow, something unique to the director… sophie calle you genius!
