A fairly alright sci-fi film but unfortunately it's a sequel to the best.
More tonally inkeeping with the blockbuster sensibilities of a Spielberg or a Cameron than the cold, detachment of Kubrick's original. It certainly has its positives and visually it's quite striking (not even comparable to 2001 though) but its lack of interest in subtlety or letting evocative imagery sit just means it's a largely bland, forgettable, expository affair which is a shame.
Roy Scheider is excellent though, big ups that guy

Sequel of my favorite movie and Im so happy it clears out so much for us. They should have made a 3rd one. Less beautiful visuals than teh first but ok ig. The Dave thing was really weird but again they should make a 3rd one to explain it better.

Not as good as the first one obviously but the mysteriousness of this movie made wanna watch it even more

Watched it right after finishing the book and rewatching the first.

Visually, not at the same level of the first but honestly?? The sets look incredible and it was still super cool to see. Need to research later where these props ended up.

Story wise, definitely a lot of differences from the book with some of my favorite parts not being adapted, but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment. I think focusing on the political tensions happening in the era this film came out was an interesting decision that I respect. Also.
