Sequel of my favorite movie and Im so happy it clears out so much for us. They should have made a 3rd one. Less beautiful visuals than teh first but ok ig. The Dave thing was really weird but again they should make a 3rd one to explain it better.

Watched it right after finishing the book and rewatching the first.

Visually, not at the same level of the first but honestly?? The sets look incredible and it was still super cool to see. Need to research later where these props ended up.

Story wise, definitely a lot of differences from the book with some of my favorite parts not being adapted, but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment. I think focusing on the political tensions happening in the era this film came out was an interesting decision that I respect. Also. Never bothered watching the sequel when I first watched 2001: A Space Odyssey, but after really enjoying my rewatch, it was only right to get this watched. Overall, just a solid sequel that adds more depth and concludes the plot ideas of the original. It does a good job of adding but not ruining 2001.

But actually more importantly than being a good sequel in my opinion, this is also just a really cool and decently put together Sci-Fi film. Doesn’t touch 2001, especially stylistically (sound design and music in particular was a monumental step down), but the captivating Sci-Fi elements were all there, and so I’m content with just that.
