This is a film I didn't expect to enjoy but did.
Afrique, Je Te Plumerai is an interesting insight into the French colonisation of Cameroon. I watched this under the guise of learning about Third Cinema at film school. The form itself didn't seem particularly innovative but it was the first documentary film I saw through the perspective of a non-western person.
Perhaps this is my own fault for not watching films widely but I admired this film for what it addressed. Lots of my classmates found themselves bored by this film and I can see why, if you don't have a particular interest in this subject, it can seem quite dry. Because my mother is from Mauritius (a former French colony off the coast of Africa) I felt like the subject was part of my history, which is perhaps why I found it so entertaining and interesting.
I find it really hard to rate documentaries because there is so much more subjectivity involved. So know that this rating is based on my personal attachment to the film.
