Bizarre, creative, and twisted. The lore of Andrew Getty and the making of this movie is pretty fucking insane. But detaching from that, this is a pretty solid movie.
I mean this in the least fucked up way possible, but I think this movie does hold back quite a bit at times. The implications are still effective, but the style of this movie was so unique and I would have liked to have seen some more of that dark creativity to hammer home the brutality of what Dennis has become. I think part of the reason for holding back was so we could still hold on to that slight amount of empathy for Dennis, but it does seem a bit cheap to go about it that way.
The fingerprints of Getty’s distressed mental health and strain are all over this, maybe not knowing about him prior to watching this would have changed my experience. But overall, I don’t think this project went to waste for our pal Andrew here. This is certainly nothing to scoff at, The Evil Within has plenty of unique things to offer.
