the Chappelle Show in 2003 captured culture in a way that no other comedian could even begin to compete with. his attention drew from the controversy of his social commentary and dark humour, but as the audience exponentially increased, they noticed his authenticity.
dave chappelle became a household name by just being himself, his fans didn't see his humour as insensitive, but instead as a revolutionary perspective of looking at the world around us. it was as if he gave glasses to his audience so they could see the world through his eyes and indirectly redefined comedy as artistic expression.
to see a legend who embodies that perspective, who continues to thrive despite major controversy, killing his first special in a decade definitely cemented his spot in the hall of fame. and for that reason, this is significantly equivalent to the return of christ.
and despite allat i'd argue that this is one of his worst specials, you can tell he's playing a bit of a character that fits better on the chappelle show. even a legend isnt perfect his first time in ten years
