Possibly the most intellectually fascinating feature from Wiseman, that’s maybe predictably considering it’s an exploration of New York’s library. All the various speeches and lectures within this film were absolutely brilliant, so many fantastic subjects and stories that were all very interesting. The main overall focus of this documentary was on the increasingly digital world and how libraries can adapt to that and aid people with it. It made me realise how important libraries are and have been as a foundation of knowledge in communities, they are able to provide any kind of information or insight into so many different situations or events. Seeing the inside cogs of a library is so amazing, institutions like libraries often feel very solid and simple but underneath everything there is so so much going on. Maybe that’s just me who sees them like that, this was really eye-opening whatever the case.

Sarebbe sbagliato etichettare questo film come documentario perché risulterebbe riduttivo e poco veritiero. Sarebbe da considerarsi più che altro un'esperienza immersiva in prima persona nella biblioteca di New York mostrando ogni aspetto, pur il minuscolo della celebre istituzione.
Dai momenti di autonomia, le attività di studio per ragazzi, i congressi su importanti tematiche e fino alle riunioni dello staff ogni frammento è inserito con precisione e accuratezza per costruire un bellissimo mosaico. L'alternanza tra i silenzi, le battiture su tastiera e le orazioni di ospiti rende l'atmosfera generale unica e autentica sotto ogni punto di vista.
Però non ogni attività affascinerà tutti e certi episodi possono risultare noiosi e poco interessanti, ma del resto così è la vita e sarebbe risultato poco reale altrimenti.
