Love the fact that this film feels raw and less dramatised. We don't really have one on one with any of the characters unless its when the main character is showing actual emotion. most of the scenes have involved more than one person. i think its on purpose to create a theme that everything and everyone is involved here. The actions of violence arent justified or dramatised. they are real actions that have been thought through and have meaning even if they are a scare tactic or a split second. there is a sort of numbness to this film as the character's with in the family are desensitised and you get the vibe that we are witnessing the main character's growing up when his innocence has already been taken while growing up by violence and other stuff. we dont see any of his interests or him as a person kinda saying that this family business and drama is my life ad all ive known sorta thing. i also like how they look at the grandma's feelings and in general how it effects everyone. i like how it doesnt seem to be funny as like to say that not even humour can save this family. i think it also feels organic because there is less effects and music added to moments and the dialogue felt genuine not scripted. this film also feels too local fr but i kinda like the location setting in australia melbourne.

"Animal Kingdom" is exactly like "Muriel's Wedding", if "Muriel's Wedding" was less about Muriel's wedding and more about murder, everything was filmed through a desaturated lens, and no one was happy at the end.

everything moves slow and controlled, like something bad is inevitable and everyone knows it. i liked how it avoids glamorizing anything, it’s all just consequences and tense silences. the family dynamic is the scariest part. not dramatic in a explosive way but just deeply uneasy the whole way through.
