Every so often a film comes around (even more rare: a modern film) that feels beyond the pale of understanding, but the genetic quality shines through. This is surely enigmatic and hypnotic. It lies within the mind of its creator, speaking its own language. Or perhaps, borrowing cinematic vocabulary from past geniuses and creating something that feels new and fresh, and consequently subversive. Lynch, Malick, and Tarkovsky are the primary influences I felt.
I expect I will revisit this again, maybe several times, in the near-ish future. Its short runtime gives it an advantage in that sense: easy to revisit.
A work whose greatness is likely to be discounted for some time. We can only hope time allows its genius to be appreciated.
