I honestly did not expect to enjoy this. Even though I am a huge Disney kid, I didn't enjoy this movie growing up. Ariel seemed too much and prince Eric was too basic. But this movie changed that. Those two are so cute together. The way they look at each other is what I want to experience in my love life. I like that they kept to the Disney story and didn't change much.

I don't know how they did it, but everything looks so good. The underwater world feels so alive and homey, and the pirate ships are gorgeous. All the small little details that went into the background are amazing. That scene at the beach where they find the market IS amazing. Visually, I am appealed.

Unfortunately this is the part I didn't enjoy. But that's not really their fault, since they just took the songs from the original Disney movie, and I didn't like those songs since the beginning. The singing itself isn't bad. The only songs I did enjoy were the song of prince Eric and Ursulas.

Nothing in this movie felt out of place or too rushed/dragged. Just like the original story.

I don't understand the hatred for Ariel being played by a person of color. Her actress looks insanely gorgeous. The only thing I would've changed is her hair being a little more red, but that's all. I am so happy that the movie used so many people of color in their movie. Her being black does not impact the story at all. She's beautiful and played her role well, just like the other actors. Ursula is a queen as always, but it would've been hilariously perfect if she would've been played by a drag queen, not a cis woman.

That pirate ship scene made me so happy. I don't even know why. The sea shanty, the shouting, the laughing amongst old men, the freedom of prince Eric... It made me want to be on that ship as well and be with them. Such a short scene, but still.
