this was INSANE! This is a film about companionship, obsession, ego, and homosexuality in the wild west. And it is a masterful dialogue on all the above topics and how they play into each other. 

So here’s the rundown. really the breakup crash out of all time. so jake breaks his ex boyfriend out of jail because he owes him from their past (illegal) adventures and doesn’t want to see him dead. but clint is still PISSED as hell that jake broke up with him for the FIRST place so he kidnaps jake and jake’s GIRLFRIEND and makes witty gay little digs while he drags them around looking for the gold jake buried. but really, whole thing is just an elaborate bid to work with his ex again and air out his grievances in front of the new girl. absolute insane, batshit, gay as hell behavior. friends to lovers to enemies is messy as anything and i’m so here for it. even the letterboxd backdrop is crazy. 

In short (but clearly not short at all this review is insanely long sorry) I love “why did you abandon me” and “i came back for you” and “i want to hurt you like you hurt me” and all those fun other tropes this features. ending pissed me off so bad so - half a star for that. 

And like, what is Sturges problem?? keeps making these incredibly homoerotic movies that make me cry. Clint Hollister i’ll remember you forever. Ok, final remark I SWEAR, everyone read the review I liked because it is everything I could ever say about this.
