This was such a morbid look on alcoholism. I loved almost every minute of this movie. Award winning acting from Nicholas Cage, I honestly think Elizabeth Shue was on par with nick here. Knowing he was really drunk in that casino scene makes his performance even more intriguing than it already was.

This might be the best performance Nicholas Cage has ever done. There’s some really ugly situations in this movie but at the same time there’s a beauty to it, with the type of love these two have for each other, made for each other in the worst way. The ending was worth while, there was a payoff that I understood and appreciated. Alcholics, prostitution, and gambling. Welcome to Vegas. 🍻🎲

Leaving Las Vegas is the first film I’ve watched that portrays alcoholism harshly without becoming boring.. Normally, films about alcoholism or addiction in general tend to bore me bc they feel emotionless, deliberately uncomfortable, and almost documentary-like, just showing what happens. But this film made me feel it.. I might get some backlash for this, but I think it’s a much better film than Requiem for a Dream.. Rather than simply showing what happens when you’re an alcoholic, this film explores the emotions and souls of alcoholic people. The scene where he pays the girl and says he just wants to talk especially touched me (“I don’t care about any of that. You can drink all you want, just stay. That’s what I want, I want you to talk or listen.. Just stay.”) because I had grown tired of watching addiction portrayed only in a dark and depressing way.. The last emotionally powerful work I watched that felt somewhat similar was Patrick Melrose. It’s a series, and honestly it’s really high quality.. I’d definitely recommend it. It’s based on a true story, and Benedict Cumberbatch gives a great performance.. As for Nicolas Cage, I don’t even feel the need to say much about how incredible his acting is.. I genuinely don’t understand how some people can find such a unique actor artificial.. Especially during the trembling scenes, my heart broke.. That look in his eyes… so sincere, so professional.. I just wish he would get more great film offers so we could watch more performances like this.. Btw the actress’s performance was pretty weak there was some scenes that had emotions but she wasted

Normalde alkol bağımlılığını veya genel olarak bağımlılığı işleyen filmler beni çok sıkar çünkü duygusuz olur, bilerek rahatsız edici işlenir, belgesel gibi sadece gösterilir ama bu film yaşatmış.. Biraz linç yiyebilirim ama Bir Rüya İçin Ağıt filminden çok daha güzel bir film bence.. Bu filmde alkolik olunca ne olur'u göstermekten çok, alkolik insanların duygularına ve ruhlarına değinmiş, özellikle kıza para verip sadece konuşmak istediğini söylediği sahne (I don't care abt any of that. You can drink all you want, just stay. That's what i want, i want you to talk or listen.. Just stay.") bana çok dokundu çünkü bağımlılık konularını sadece karanlık bir şekilde izlemekten gına gelmişti, en son izlediğim buna yakın duygusal yapım Patrick Melrose'tu dizi ve gerçekten kaliteli bu arada öneririm gerçek hayat hikayesi Benedict Cumberbatch de güzel canlandırıyor..
