this film really knows how to do a lot with a little. it’s calm, quiet, and weirdly funny, like a gangster movie that’s more about waiting around than pulling triggers. the group dynamic is great, and even when nothing’s happening, it feels tense. the shootouts are short and sharp, but it’s those long stretches of silence and stillness that hit hardest. johnnie to keeps it all tight and focused. doesn’t overdo it, just lets the mood build. super low-key, but super effective.

The Boys Are Back In Town - Thin Lizzy

Apparently this was made without a completed script and I think this was to the films benefit as there’s basically zero fluff. There are definitely places where you can feel how rough it is (like..in the first half, Roy & Curtis are “driving around” and it’s so obviously a parked car with lights flashing around it’s hilarious) but overall outside of nitpicky things like that I thought this was super good. My fav from Johnnie To for now.
