And now, I have seen all the (important) Jacques Tati films! Easily a top 5 filmmaker for me. He has such a unique approach to filmmaking it’s genuinely unlike anything I’ve seen before. The closest thing I can think of is like a Wes Anderson, but even he doesn’t have the same control as Tati does in PlayTime.
In comparison to the highs reached in PlayTime and Mon Oncle, Jour de Fête feels very quaint. The seeds are there that become Monsieur Hulot’s Holiday and that’s all the film had to do, kickstart Tati.
Idk if I should bother with Parade. It’s not available anywhere.
