I actually really really enjoyed this movie, it had my attention after the first 10 or so minutes of nothing but once the nuke goes off it had me gripped really hard. i think it was a really striking image to see somewhere so close to home for me (baltimore) struck with a nuclear bomb. i was convinced that the remainder of the movie would be finding the bomb and cutting the red wire right before it went off but it actually genuinely surprised the shit out of me when it went off. the effects weren’t great in that scene but it was affective nonetheless.
I think that it’s almost completely unlikely we get a movie like this today but it’s almost even more surprising to see that this movie came out within the year of 9/11 LOL like imagine how traumatic that nuke scene must’ve been for people 22 years ago. in this movie the bombers aren’t middle eastern or anything but to see such massive terrorism in a pretty realistic way in one of the east coasts most populated cities had to be striking. Again i just think it’s insane that this got released as it is when even movies like spider-man removed scenes near the twin towers and shit after 9/11. like i don’t think the people of the US were in the mood for such a downer / reminder of what happened. idk
