A flawed film for sure, but one I have a tremendous soft spot for nonetheless. I love Herbert Lom's Phantom, I love his design (less so his actual face), and I adore his voice. He's tragic but not misunderstood and evil, he's just a guy that got severely screwed over. It stands out from other Phantom adaptations because of that, along with the fact there's no romance between the Phantom and Christine, which I honestly welcome! Also has some of my favorite moments in any Phantom film, like the close up of the Phantom's one good eye shedding a tear during the final aria. Heather Sears is a fine Christine, I really like Edward de Souza as not-Raoul, and Michael Gough is just such a disgustingly evil bastard here that it's fun to watch. It must be said, Lord D'Arcy is a bit Lord Andy coded. For legal reasons, this is a joke.
