The Substance was one of my favorite theater experiences and also one of my favorite movies of 2024. I had heard of this movie for a bit but always got it confused with Mandy because of the color palette of their posters. After I watched The Substance, one of my friends told me I should watch her first film Revenge, so here we are now.Revenge is a flawed movie that could have developed its lead character more before she became a fucking badass but I found this film too hard to fully nitpick like how I usually do. The scyrit here after the thirty minute mark is so tight and uses the subject of tape very respectfully. It's like the antithesis of I Spit on Your Grace. Jen is great once she escaped death but I found the guy who played Stan deserved credit too. All of them where good but the actor who played Richard should have gone further with the misogynistic depravity. This is a very good feminist film too, it's very fun and, despite how all the guys in this movie are total scumbags (I don't want to not all men the women who where assaulted), it was so satisfying the ways they were plucked off. The violence felt real to the pointhwere I was flinching with digust and this is elevated by some great filmmaking that creates some tension filled sequences. It's a good movie, not as good as The Substance but those of you who love that movie should check this out.
