When young dockworker Jude leaves Liverpool to find his estranged father in the United States, he is swept up by the waves of change that are re-shaping the nation. Jude falls in love with Lucy, who joins the growing anti-war movement. As the body count in Vietnam rises, political tensions at home spiral out of control and the star-crossed lovers find themselves in a psychedelic world gone mad.

Unfortunately, I didn't have any drugs with me to watch this. Instead, I got tipsy.Julie Taymor is an interesting director, because most of her work is visually arresting while her plots often aren't much. I rewatched this, because I've been going through more of The Beatles lately in preparation for the Cult move club's screening of 'A Hard Day's Night'. This was pretty fun on a rewatch. Some of it is a bit shallow, but there is so much great stuff here that I can't help but enjoy it. There are genuinely 10/10 sequences sprinkled throughout despite it not being amazing. It has some pacing issues and the relationship isn't totally gripping, but I couldn't totally watch this again.

this movie is proof that good cinematography can make you feel things before a character even says a word.
every sequence is so carefully crafted.the visuals are vibrant without being overwhelming, the transitions flow like lyrics between verses, and every song reveals something new about the characters rather than stopping the story.
what i loved the most is how alive the film feels. through its diverse cast of characters, it captures so many different experiences of the same era. each individual represents a different piece of the world the film is trying to capture.
it feels like a dream, a protest, a love letter, and a music video all at the same time. absolutely gorgeous.
the final performance of All You Need Is Love genuinely gave me chills. somehow after two hours of Beatles covers, the movie saves one of its best moments for last.
