a film not concerned with always delivering its punch lines, it lets the air hang and that means you never quite know whats going to happen. It is a film which is completely unconcerned with how it is perceived; it dares you to care about these characters and the triumph is that somehow we do.

I’m a huge fan of this structuralist format unexplainable as well. I think the up and coming this was ahead of its time far from when minimalism in independent cinema was forming in the 90s this plopping in the 80s was a interesting cultural staple for film. And I think my liking to this structure is the same for the culture wave of the making for this in independent cinema, where you’re drawn not necessarily to having no plot but having slow and dialogue driven scenes. Without fantastical plots and muscle hero’s holding m60s. It draws you to know other people don’t do much they just eat drink watch tv smoke play cards and talk. That people don’t dream of fantastical events but dissecting a reality.

In that dissection and interest play comes from Willy dancing with the idea of his heritage conflicting with becoming an American. SPOILER ALERT: he ends up going to Budapest even though his cousin isn’t on that plane. It’s almost inevitable with the weird hinting towards a sexual obsession that Willy has for his cousin Eva.

Over all it’s all been said with the subtle plot line that is very exact. In that the mathematical aspect and pioneering independent cinema. Which draws me to these precise images.

Definitely aiming to convey a mood and feeling rather than worrying about the plot, it’s a slow, leisurely walk through the doldrums of life with some characters. Decent random pull tho. May be better consumed in a theater than at home.
