I had to sit down and process everything that happened in this film. I get that it’s peer pressure and nisha’s still just a teen, and honestly the blame goes both ways. Herself and the boys dragging her into stuff. The pressure on her is so loud man i couldn’t even breathe. Some kids act the way they do because of how their families treat them.
Her parents on the other hand lmao.. idk. They’re kinda the villains even though you can tell they think they’re helping or “guiding” her. But some things are just not it.. like at all.
And don’t even get me started on the police scenes BROOOO i had to pause. Genuinely infuriating.
Also icl but the movie lowkey feels like it glorifies the norwegian side while making the pakistani/islamic environment look automatically oppressive or “bad.” Like i get it’s based on the director’s real experiences but sometimes it felt a bit one sided even though the story itself is still really powerful. It also frames women and especially muslim women as extremely vulnerable which i HATE.. putting it in a way like it’s too easy for people and circumstances to control them. So what if it’s based on real experiences but then the portrayal felt so heavy handed bruh idk
Overall this film did deliver a wonderful message but the way it’s delivered is terrible.
