Set during the height of Spanish Inquisition. The beautiful and kind-hearted Maria is arrested as a witch when she inadvertently cries out in horror at the public whipping of a child. As Maria’s husband Antonio tries to save her, Torquemada, the Grand Inquisitor, determines to punish Maria with torture for the desire she inflames in him. Loosely based on Edgar Allen Poe's classic short story.

if I had a nickel for every time I watched a bit of Spanish Inquisition based media that features a black and white image of Bruegel's The Triumph of Death, I would have two whole nickels now
(shoutout Monty Python's Flying Circus series 2 episode 2, my beloved)

Whoever is putting this above Doctor Mordrid for lists of Jeffrey Combs films, deserves The Pit and The Pendulum.
The .5 is for the epic hag who guzzled down gunpowder before she got burnt at the stake, and for Jeffrey Combs gay little outfit.

*“you’re a witch!”
“and you are not, are you? oh you poor thing […] i don’t ride a broomstick through the air or kiss the devil’s cock. i’m a midwife, i grow herbs and try to heal the sick as best as i can, AND FOR THIS THEY WANT TO BURN ME!”*
