Frankly almost indistinguishable from the Ozu films I have seen—perhaps a few more tracking shots. well portrayed emotional arc from Setsuko Hara. detail of the young widow and her son selling newspapers was touching.

Love this film. It’s excellently made and well-written, with a fairly simple narrative. I came across it by chance while browsing through pieces of Japanese media available in the Internet Archive’s collection. highly recommended.
