Invitation to the Dance

a fun little ballet triptych I watched on TCM. if you’re into classic hollywood technicolor musicals and want something weirder, give this a spin. first chapter is like a fun commedia dell’arte bit with some amazing clown looks. I rly loved the second chapter, feels the most narratively and musically interesting. I kept cracking up at the little musical motif that sounds just like “na na na boo boo”. third chapter has some ambitious animated sequences but it loses steam pretty fast. overall I enjoyed!

You can see the passion that Gene put into the direction and choreography of this. The sequences were fun, energetic and enjoyable without needing any type of communication other than dance. That being said, I did miss hearing Gene's beautiful voice and singing throughout this.
