Watched with a friend, I couldn't remember anything about this movie other than I wanted to watch it.
What a creepy ass, malignant sex scene at the start. Hell yeah.
I can't really get on board with the criticism of the ending, mostly because it was set up during the film, while all the more "standard" giallo endings were teased but repeatedly ruled out earlier in the film. The reveal that Kasumi's father hired an international serial killer to pick off anyone who got close to Kasumi might be unrewarding for some viewers since he's not a character who appears, but it does fit the narrative of the film.
This film does a handful of things really well. I love the lighting all the way throughout, there are a handful of what I would consider perfect shots, the giallo-style twists are plentiful and always very fun, the screenplay is fairly tight since all set-ups are paid off, and the kills are all very fancy.
This would be 4 stars if at the end Kasumi and Asuka went away together.
