The actresses present had the ability to make this great, yet I felt they weren’t used in a way where they had the opportunity to do so. I wish this wasn’t an English language film because I really felt like that took a lot away for the film. The English translations of the original play are meant to be read, not heard.
Of the story itself, it was moving at times and I understand that as a Greek tragedy it’s supposed to be literally tragic but it got very repetitive to me with the constant and repeated dramatic speeches of the characters in despair. Sorry, but by the fifth time hearing you cry out, I just don’t really feel bad for you anymore. Maybe I’m just too far removed from Greek society to understand this, I don’t know.
