It may not be the first ever gay slasher to some (many cite Cruising (1980) as the first), but it’s definitely the first to treat its gay characters and gay culture with respect and positivity. You can tell the film loves its characters cos they’re so fun and likeable! The slasher aspects are well-executed too, especially the entire third act, which features a great chase. The carnival setting is well utilised and the soundtrack is really fun.  The film may not be respected a lot (and sometimes it feels like it doesn’t want to be respected), but it’s a stone cold masterpiece to me.

quero me redimir por todas as vezes que critiquei filmes slasher... eu não sabia que existia essa obra prima queer com personagens super legais e um assassino homofóbico que parece que veio direto de um porno gay fetichista

A movie I guess you could say was ahead of its time. The early 2000s weren’t quite as kind to the LGBT community, and as far as I know this may be one of if not the only movie in that time period that wears the gayness on its sleeve rather than most movies like Nightmare on Elm Street 2 saying “no, this movie with sweaty shirtless dudes and a leather bar doesn’t have any undertones at all!” And it walked so many other movies today like it could run!

But as just a slasher, it’s alright. After a good opening sequence the next kills don’t come for a while, but it is a short film so it’s not like we’re waiting forever. Do kind of wish we got some backstory about the killer though, yeah it is better to not know sometimes but maybe just a little?

But overall a fun gay slasher to watch even as an ally like me! I will say, it probably wasn’t in this movie’s budget but wish they could have played Judas Priest’s Hellbent For Leather. Would have been perfect!
