Depressive Cop
Its so surreal getting to watch a Bertrand Mandico short where there's actually a scene where two people sit down and just talk but to see how he subtly then outlandishly make a normal scene like that totally weird is to see i think what Mandico films are all about. Its all about embracing the weird thoughts you have every once and while and turning it into films, nobody demands for it but you can't look away and its liberating in a way as much as it can be repulsive, with Depressive Cop it is i think Mandico's most accessible short for that the weirdness here does have a narrative through line at the very least at the beginning but don't be scared, this short still goes to wild unpredictable places but it does have ideas that makes it more cohesive and accessibly pulp so I do recommend this if you wanna start somewhere with him.
I don't know what it is but theres a strange comfort to these short films because you always know what its gonna be like but not what to expect, almost like meeting a baby and seeing how cute and childish and crazy they are, unconcerned and uninfluenced by the world at large, their eyes seeing everything like they are on drugs then they start to fart, spit food everywhere, throw things around, and scream to pitches your ears can't even begin to understand, thats the vibe and charm of Mandico films to me in a nutshell.
