this is one of the most confidently created films i've ever seen. the mastery over images and structure is absolutely unmatched. i feel like i need to watch this 7 more times to fully entrance myself in it. i hope to have an ounce of this talent and vision. SHOUT OUT TODD!! i will go see your gay noir movie if it ever comes out :(

reminded me so so so so much of Beirut by Alan Browne, buddies, sextool, salo, fireworks, song of love, etc. This is the mega aids play movie. Incredibleeeee. 
Tbh I thought I was ready to watch this after I had watched like 1/3 of my pre 1991 queer movie catalogue (it is 200 movies long) but I was wrong. There are still references that fly over my head that I can’t wait to see. This movie is literally like a best of compilation of all gay dramatic literature that comes before it, while simultaneously being completely original 
I had so much fun watching this tho, heartbreaking, exhilarating, campy, maybe my fav movie of all time. Love a movie that dismantles modern myths and stereotypes in popular society. This movie fucks so hard

Todd Haynes is a ridiculously underappreciated director with one of the most distinctive historical visions. Poison is one of his earlier works, presenting three stories about underdogs in unusual, to say the least, circumstances. Each segment is distinct in its style, and the overall narrative structure helps the film stand out even 35 years after its premiere.

The 50s Twilight Zone-homage segment was my favorite by far. Overall, Poison is a highly artistic reflection on the AIDS crisis of the 80s. However, it’s not my favorite of Haynes’s works, although I found the parallel storytelling and montage quite unique, the film itself didn’t fully resonate with me.
