the film just couldn’t replicate the grittiness and psyche that made smaller and smaller circles so gripping. after finishing the book, i hesitated watching this because the novel structure would be difficult to adapt into an effective screenplay (and unfortunately, i was right). the antagonist was barely recognizable, compared to the novel, we know the killer in much more color and depth - especially how Payatas was central to the story and its message.
regardless, the production quality was very great!! from the editing to the set designs, they were made with care. sid lucero and nonie buencamino were masterful in their performances.
