a grounded, slow-burn political thriller that works because of its realism. ken loach keeps everything tense without ever going flashy, and frances mcdormand plus brian cox bring a steady, uneasy energy that carries the whole thing. it can get a little dry, but the atmosphere and the quiet intensity make it a really solid watch.

Ken Loach, Frances McDormand and Brian Cox should have been invited to the Sinn Fein Ard Fheis this weekend. It's RIDICULOUS how honest this movie is about the British government and the Troubles. No surprise that nobody ever talks about it -- it's SO radical and pro-republican in a way most Irish directors would never dare. The absolute king Loach putting this on screen and a lot of fun to see McDormand running around O'Connell Bridge. Super important historical document that should be shown in schools. Could probably do with being a little bit more tense for the sake of entertainment but I can't fault anything about its intent and achievement.
