The Beekeeper
✮ Lights, Camera, Action! ✮

The Beekeeper feels like an early version of Eternity and a Day, but it has a completely different aura nonetheless. Here, Angelopoulos uses the intense sexual desire between a man and a girl to highlight their differences in age and maturity. He also uses sexuality as a way to mark how time passes us by. Although one of the themes it addresses is death, I think the main focus is actually the passage of time; the protagonist falls and realizes his age when his daughter gets married. Sometimes we can see what happens to others but not realize that it happens to ourselves too. It is a film with multiple themes but that has great visual beauty, I think it is one of the most beautiful of the Greek filmmaker. It's really difficult for me to explain why it's in my top favorites, but I simply love it, it's a movie that basically went through me.

I really thought humanity was some profound, exalted thing
turns out we’re just embarrassingly basic.
