for his debut film, he goes pretty tame and simple. it’s just your usual horror tropes pre 2020, its good, but it’s nothing to marvel about, i did really like the vibe of this one, and the acting is good, but that’s about it and our titular ‘hole in the ground’ is basically left buried in the dark.
evil dead rise would come to prove he’s more than typical and i hope the mummy only carries it on. ive been getting pretty excited for it, it seems like he’s taking a hardcore approach like with evil dead rise in terms of body horror but more grounded like this one, with eating bugs…
if there’s one thing lee cronin is amazing at, it’s finding my these horrifying child actors, the girl for katie looks like she’s about to knock it out of the park and here, james quinn markey really had me unsettled at times
but yeah, good movie
