What a major work! This is by far the most French thing I've ever witnessed, and while this didn't keep me exactly on the edge of my seat, for me watching The Mother and the Whore was a very rewarding experience as a whole. The film also featutes arguably a top 10 monologue ever in film.

I liked it, but it's not the kind of movie you would watch when you're depressed, because it will make you even more depressed.

The concept of this movie it's already in the title. Marie it's the mother(Alexander loves her, but dosen't have any sexual atraction towards her) and Veronika it's the whore(Alexander dosen't love her, but feels a lot of sexual atraction)

And the final monlouge of Veronika denies that concept while realsing how shallow Alexander is. Alexander it's the epitome of a performative man, he's saying shit but dosen't act on it or truly belive it
