“hello, this is billy hughes speaking. this is a digital voice computer. please have patience and i will answer.”
holy shit she’s actually so goated? queen was running around and parkouring in DEAD SILENCE i love her so much.
this is the kind of camp i always look for when i look at 90’s horror. it’s a really easy setup, and it’s easy to get in and out of it. the main character is really likable (marina zudina as billy) and though she has a handicap, she feels like such a powerful and well written character. i love how she’s a smart, confident woman and she’s very skilled at what she does as special effects artist. that it’s a central part of the movie and not just background is actually so refreshing.
also loved the relationship she has with karen (fay ripley), her older sister who not only values her for what she can contribute but also serves as her biggest supporter throughout the film. i think it speaks to the bond you can have amongst family members that transcends mere communication. also her boyfriend (andy clark, evan) sucks so much and is such a terrible character. he is quite literally the worst.
i thought the kills in this were really fun as well. whether it’s the really brutal slaying at the studio or the way billy manages to kill arkadi when he comes for her, they’re all well done. even the scene where the fake police officers are taken out through a series of misevents is so fun to watch.
criminally under-seen and under appreciated!
