Family and poverty, masculinity (toxic), shame, escapism or carving your own world, little joys, self discovery, fear. Beautiful cinematography, great casting and actors; they played their roles so effortlessly from the little gestures and faces they made. I really adore this film.

Watching this before reading the book enriched my reading experience. So many beautiful visuals that stayed in my mind through the years. That being said, revisiting the film now, I was hyper aware of how they were reading lines from the book. It took a little away from the acting performances but still gorgeous to watch

I may have seen a few films in my lifetime that was able to capture the complexities of a struggling family and Jeremiah Zagar you told the story so well. As a last child, this hit home more than anything else. Thank you
