raised my hackles politically i just don’t have the knowledge of the nuances of indonesian history to explain why … how embarrassing 🙈 … clearly it is a (surprisingly perhaps for indonesian cinema ?) political film and it does obviously reference / frown on political corruption, tyranny, even genocide, but then because of that i assume it has to be making some kind of stance on suharto / the mass killings / even the sept 30 coup because how could it not when they’re all kind of explicitly alluded to ??? and then my confusion is that at the end of the day it’s a very hollywood and by extension pro american / pro military movie, literally the whole thing is in english as well, so like wtf does that mean in terms of the politics of it all …. giving neoliberalism let’s be real …. idk it’s 3:30 am at this point bc the movie is so fucking long lollllll let me shut up and stop my speculations . anyway they should not have done that to julie estelle !!!!! at least arifin putra looking snackish 😋 and the rest of the team if u are into that kind of thing (men)
