What if a James Bond film were set in Wakanda, and also there’s monsters? Well you got the weirdly fun Ishiro Honda film Latitude Zero baby!
The ties to Godzilla are more thin than any other movie on this list. Technically, one of its alternate titles is listed as Atragon II, which would be a very clean connection if this movie had anything to do with Atragon besides having a futuristic submarine. There’s no acknowledgement to the other film and I’m not even sure if Atragon II was ever a part of any official title. There’s very little information about it online.
However, there is one far more interesting connection in the preproduction of this movie. This was originally going to be BATMAN VS GODZILLA. Yeah. This was made during the height of 60’s Batman and there was a planned crossover that would be a Japanese and American collaboration. Unfortunately, it never came to fruition, however there are certain elements that carried over into this film, such as Cesar Romero as the main villain and a race of mutant “Bat Men”.
It’s such a shame that this collaboration (which also would’ve included Boris Karloff and Bruce Lee) never materialized, but at least now I don’t have to include every DC film on my Godzilla list.
